Vulture Restaurant
In support of the critically endangered species
The CL Woolcott Vulture Restaurant is located in Ghanzi and has been created in support of the critically endangered Vulture species. Vultures are an important part of today's eco system and unfortunately numbers are decreasing for various reasons including loss of habitat, being hunted for traditional medicine and one of the biggest factors is poisoning. The Vulture restaurant provides a safe haven for vultures to feed as although they cannot get food poisoning due to having an incredibly acidic stomach to prevent the spread of disease, this does not protect them against lead poisoning. You can visit the 'restaurant' either for a self-guided tour to watch the Vultures feed or opt for the highly recommended guided tour which gives you some background on this somewhat misunderstood species, whilst contributing towards a good cause. If you wish to visit the Vulture Restaurant follow the directions to Thakadu Bush Camp (3km south of Ghanzi on your right hand side) and follow the signs to the camps reception where you check in. For self-guided tours the entrance fee is P20 and for a guided tour you pay P50 per person.
