Description
After hotel pickup, begin with a visit to the Three Dikgosi Monument to explore Botswana’s historical leaders. Travel to the Main Mall, Botswana's first mall, where you can meet locals, shop for ornaments, and sample traditional cuisine.
Drive past the University of Botswana while learning about the cultural importance of cattle and how it helped build the university. Continue to 'The Village,' the site where Gaborone began, and hear about its political history since 1890.
Visit the Thapong Visual Arts Centre to view artwork and meet Botswana’s young artists. This area also features an old dugout fort, Gaborone’s first prison, and first post office. Learn about the 1902 magistrate’s house, now the arts center.
Explore the modern village of Tlokweng, home to the Batlokwa tribe named after Chief Gaberone, and observe village life adjacent to the city.
